It's all about Porsche…if you're an owner of a Porsche,or a big enthusiast of Porsche Cars, Porsche Motorsports, Porsche Design, Porsche History, or a member of a Porsche Club….join me on focusing just about PORSCHE!!
If you’re the sort of person who gets unfeasibly excited and lightly feverish when presented with a classic, mint condition old-school sportscar previously owned by someone very cool and very famous, then, frankly, you’re our sort of person.
And thus, today is a good day for you, because a Porsche 911 previously owned by Top GearMagazine’s Man of the Year (2011) Jenson Button is up for sale.
Formula One ace Jenson Button is selling his classic Porsche 911 – for a staggering £210,000. The Somerset-born star owns a string of supercars made by Ferrari, McLaren and Bugatti.
But his 1973 Carrera RS is considered the ‘holy grail’ of 911 models and is highly sought after by collectors.
Porsche wanted to race the 911 but was required to build 500 ‘homologation’ models which could be driven legally on roads beforehand.
So they launched the Carrera RS – with Button’s sports car the first Porsche which wealthy businessmen could drive to work in during the week and thrash around a racetrack at the weekend. It was a stiffer, lighter, more powerful 911 fitted with a 2.7-litre engine developing 210bhp.
A huge demand meant Porsche ended up building 1,590 models, with Jenson’s 1,280 off the production line.
And it’s no ordinary Porsche 911.
It is a 1973 2.7 Carrera RS.
This very fact should send a shiver of fizz right through to your extremities. Don’t forget, it’s the car Porsche had to homologate in order to go racing back in the 1970s.
They had to build a minimum of 500, but actually churned out 1590 because of the demand.
Compared to the standard 911, the 2.7 Carrera RS models featured stiffer suspension, larger brakes, wider rear wheels and arches and, of course,
……that fabulous ‘duck-tail’ rear spoiler.
The engine was a 2.7-litre flat-sixer producing 210bhp and became the fastest road-going car in Germany of its day.
0-60mph took just under six seconds and flat out, the RS would top 152mph.
Jenson picked up this ultimate collectors’ Porsche just two years ago, number 1280 of the 1590 model run, which has covered just 25,000 miles.
It reportedly spent most of its life in Italy, owned early in its life by Mario Angiolini, founder of the ‘Jolly Club’ Italian racing team.
So you can imagine that being a rare 2.7 Carrera RS, in black, previously owned by the 2009 Formula One world champion and all-round top bloke, would command a significant premium over its lowly siblings.
You’d be right.
This particular Porsche is on the market for £209,850.
Porsche enthusiast, Flying Lizard fan, Photographer SEAN KLINGELHOEFER, gives us a tour on what it takes to do a photo shoot of the Flying Lizard Motorsports Le Mans Porsches

Sean Klingelhoefer posts another “Making of” behind the scenes look of his Automotive photo session with Porsche Flying Lizards GT3 RSR for Le Mans 24 hour 2011.
It is with great pleasure that I give you a look behind the scenes of the most challenge yet most fun photoshoot I’ve had to date. It should come as no surprise since I’m a Porsche enthusiast and Flying Lizard fan that I jumped at the opportunity to work with the team. It all started with some discussions during the off season, then a few months ago the head of PR/marking got in touch with me about a photo shoot concerning images for Le Mans. What I didn’t know at the time were the constraints I would be facing for the shoot.

Stuttgart.Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is widening the top end of its Carrera model line and pairing up each of the two 911 Carrera GTS with an all-wheel drive twin. That means that the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé and Cabriolet will combine the 408 hp (300 kW) top of the range engine of the Carrera GTS family with the intelligent, all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM). Driving dynamics are not the only source of attraction. Economics are as well.
Thanks to Porsche Intelligent Performance the new all-wheel 911s consume no more than the equivalent Carrera 4S version, the Coupé remains at 11.0 l/100 km (25.7 mpg imp.) and the Cabriolet at 11.2 l/100 km (25.2 mpg imp.) respectively based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Moreover both of them boast an even more comprehensive standard equipment package compared with the Carrera 4S models.
The 911 Carrera 4 GTS power unit has its origins in the 3.8-litre, six-cylinder
Carrera S engine.
A wholesale revamping of the intake duct added 23 hp (17 kW), taking the power output to 408 hp (300 kW) at 7,300 rpm. The special aspiration system not only improves peak power output but flexibility and power development as well thanks to a more generous torque curve in the lower and middle engine speed range. 320 Newton metres kick in from as low as 1,500 rpm; the six-cylinder engine delivers its rated torque of 420 Nm in the broad engine speed range from 4,200 rpm and 5,600 rpm.
The sports exhaust system fitted as standard ensures a distinctly sporty sound. It invests the new Carrera 4 GTS with an unmistakable acoustic signature and the rear view of its tail pipe with its unique black surface design lends it a unique character.
At full power the Carrera 4 GTS Coupé sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, the Cabriolet in 4.8 seconds.
The Carrera 4 GTS is fitted as standard with a six-speed manual transmission but the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed is available as an option if desired.
The PDK shaves an additional 0.2 seconds respectively off the acceleration times from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph).
In the Carrera 4 GTS as well, PTM all-wheel drive stands for Porsche’s typical driving pleasure with even more driving stability, traction and agile handling.
What’s more, just how single-mindedly the Carrera 4 GTS is designed for driving dynamics is evident from the use of a standard limited-slip differential. This mechanical rear differential lock contributes to the driving dynamics of the electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.
The PTM achieves this by directing the optimal proportion of the engine torque to the front wheels via a multiple-plate clutch.
Visually, the new Carrera 4 GTS models with all-wheel drive differ in points of detail from earlier variants with rear-wheel drive: In addition to the type name on the doors and rear lid, the distinguishing characteristic of all models with all-wheel drive is the additional reflective stripe between the taillights. What the Carrera GTS models have in common is the 911’s wide body, otherwise reserved for the all-wheel version of the 911s, and the rear axle track width that goes with it.
In numerous other details as well the GTS models differ both visually and technically from the other Carrera models. For example, they run on 19 inch RS Spyder wheels in black with central locking and gloss-lathed rim flanges fitted with 305/30 ZR 19 tyres on the rear axle.
Additional visual features include the Sport-Design front apron with black painted spoiler lip and special side skirts, also in black. Driver and passenger are accommodated on sports seats.
Typical of the GTS, the emphatically sporty black Alcantara covering on centre panels, steering wheel rim, gearshift and handbrake lever, door handles and door storage box lid and extension are offered as standard in addition to a range of leather upholstery options.
The 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé, including country-specific equipment and VAT at 19 per cent, is offered in Germany at a price of 111,956 euro, the Cabriolet costs 122,071 euro. Both models will be on sale in Germany from July 2011.
The best scenes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in German Rally Championships.
Like me, I tend to get a bit excited about Porsche Rallye events. I hope that you do too, and if so, then these videos are for you The cars are powerful and the drivers are in full control of their incredibly insane machines. They burn up the courses, proving what a Porsche can do when allowed outside of the norm! Rock on!
Last November I posted … PORSCHE – Pure Engine Sound videos….so if you need more of a fix, just listen to the sweet rumble of Porsche during hill climb competitions, some of the best CLIPS recorded. MUSIC TO MY EARS !

There’s some serious lust for Porsches–especially those with a more esoteric flare. Its a clone/tribute of the Rothmans Porsche 953 rally cars that ran around Africa in the early eighties. Very nicely put together and going for a fraction of the cost of a real deal version.
If you remember July of 2010 when the 2-wheel-drive 1980 Rothmans Rally Car sold to GoPro for upwards of $70,000 on eBay. Although that car was stunning in everyway the owner knew he needed something more. He searched the country high and low for the perfect donor and finally found an accident free, perfectly maintained, weekend driver, pilot owned, all original with every factory option 1989 1/2 Porsche 964 C4.
This is how the car started… a gorgeous, perfectly maintained 1989 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 1989 Porsche 911/964 by jeremycliff, on Flickr
Short description from the eBay ad…
Meet AWD Paris…
She is an absolutely stunning freshly completed Porsche 911 Paris, Alger, Dakar Winning 953 Off Road Rally Tribute Car that has been painstakingly built over last year. She was built as a tribute to the winning Porsche 953 raced from Paris to Dakar in 1984 Piloted by Rene Metge and Dominique Lemoyne. Paris originally started life as a 1989 1/2 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 in PERFECT condition and is perfectly street legal and plated and titled in Illinois.
There is only three (3) of these factory cars, two (2) owned by Porsche and one in private hands. Although this is a reproduction, most observers will swear this is the real deal…
Over the last couple months Jeremy Cliff has been shooting and prepping photos and video of “Paris”, this Rothmans Porsche 911 Tribute Car, the time has finally come to put the car up for sale and release the photos. Jeremy wanted to do something very different and have a unique location wise…. I’m sure most of you will recognize it, but for those that do not the “house” location is actually the house that was used in the famous 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. What better spot to shoot a historic vehicle then in a historic location?
The car is currently for sale on eBay and can be found here:
