Few other automobiles in the world can look back on such a long tradition and such continuity as the Porsche 911. It has been inspiring car enthusiasts the world over since its debut as the model 901 at the IAA International Automotive Show in September 1963.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupé and Porsche 911 2.0 Coupé (Model Year 1964)

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupé and Porsche 911 2.0 Coupé (Model Year 1964)

Today it is considered the quintessential sports car, the benchmark for all others. The 911 is also the central point of reference for all other Porsche series. Over 820,000 Porsche 911s have been built, making it to one of the most successful sports car in the world. Like no other vehicle, the 911 reconciles apparent contradictions such as sportiness and everyday practicality, tradition and innovation, exclusivity and social acceptance, design and functionality. And about 70 percent of all built 911 are still driving on the streets today.

Porsche Classic will take this opportunity to present four 911 models to illustrate the broad scope of the 911’s history. Two early coupés will provide visitors with an insight into the technology of the first 911 models: one 911 (1964) currently being restored in the Porsche Classic workshop as well as a 911 (1965) straight from the Porsche Museum.

The 911 Turbo Cabriolet concept car will also be on show in Essen. This made its debut in September 1981 at the IAA in Frankfurt. Porsche Exclusive and Tequipment will present the modern 911 range with a current 911 (type 991) which has been specially equipped to demonstrate the broad range of personalisation options. In addition, fans of the 911 predecessor, the 356, will not be disappointed at the Techno Classica, as Porsche Classic will be presenting a rare fully restored 356 B T5 GS Carrera GT model.

Naturally, Porsche Classic experts will be present to advise and assist visitors to the show. They will be pleased to provide information on the extensive availability of Genuine Parts for Porsche Classic models as well as insider tips on the maintenance and correct servicing of these historic vehicles. Many of the Genuine Parts and accessories from the Classic range will be presented in a large shelving unit. In this way, Porsche Classic is clearly stating that its commitment to the preservation of old sports car treasures has never been stronger. A total of 35,000 Genuine Parts for Classic vehicles are available via the Porsche Centres worldwide.

The large selection of products on show on the Porsche stand will be complemented with the Sales Truck of Driver’s Selection by Porsche Design, which has a large selection of current Porsche accessories on offer.

VIDEO: Porsche 924 on Snow (5°Snowfall) and Winter Maintenance

PATRICK RIVA'S daily driver engaged on the Swiss slippery roads (some years ago) .. I did the photo montage extrapolating frames from a movie that a friend of mine has made.

Make sure your Porsche 924 is ready for wintertime.

This makes me think that everybody’s ride needs a little checkup once in a while.

Even Santa’s Sleigh needs a little tightening before it takes off in the cold, snow, and ice.

Make sure you don’t get stuck in the snow waiting for a reindeer or a tow truck to help you.

Get your car checked before the icy grip of winter settles in.

A little word of caution. The winter months are hard on your car. Everything from the extreme cold to the dirt and corrosive materials brought in by snow can do lots of damage. Getting your car a winter maintenance check before the cold weather sets in can go a long way in preventing problems from popping up.

If you don’t have a fully functional spark plug with working spark plug wires and a clear well maintained fuel delivery system your engine could have some trouble starting and warming up in the cold. The cold can also cause parts of your engine to crack going from the extreme cold to heat if they’re not treated properly.

Of course it goes without saying that your tires and your brakes should be in top working condition for those icy roads too. Check your anti-freeze to make sure the mixture is right and that your engine doesn’t seize up in the cold and make sure your tires are safe and sound.

Bad tires can very quickly turn your car into a sled when you are going down an icy hill.

Driving down an icy road in subzero temperatures isn’t the time to think about what your car needs to survive the winter. A Winter maintenance check is designed to make sure your car is ready to withstand the icy roads and harsh temperatures.Be sure you are getting someone who is going to take care of your car and treat it like the valuable high performance machine that it is.

Happy Holidays! And safe driving….

About The Artist:

Stéphane Dufour Automotive Artist

Stéphane DUFOUR was born in BellacFrance, in 1970.

He spent most of his childhood contemplating fine automobile craftsmanship passing through his father’s workshop. His father repaired and serviced prestigious cars, authentic masterpieces which stimulated Stéphane’s imagination and would deeply influence this young boy’s day to day life.

PSYCHEDELIQUE
Original done in colored pencils. 1/150.

While attending his first lessons at the Art Decos school of Limoges, he realized he could combine his passions for drawing and beautiful cars. Stéphane was unquestionably inspired by the 50s, 60s and 70s automobiles. Three decades unanimously considered as the pinnacle of car design and conception by all car amateurs.

917 Martini

With a simple pencil or charcoal he started drawing, with great talent, these legendary cars which were all hauting his mind. At the time his preference for “3/4 front” and black and white drawings is evident. After studying three years at the Art Décos school, he established his unique and innovative style, synthetising space, light, shape, movement and color.

Pushing his work on reflections and details to the limit, his paintings now emphasized the light and shadows rapping around exquisite bodywork. Stéphane’s work is eclectic, ranging from Ferrari to Aston Martin and passed Citroen.

However his unassailable passion for Porsche shines through with numerous and honorable art works of unique German supercars.

One of only 20 GT2 Club Sports Produced by Porsche AG

Porsche 911(993) GT2

One of only 20 GT2 Club Sports Produced by Porsche AG

Chassis No. WPOZZZ99ZTS392148

“993” was the company’s internal name for the version of the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold between late 1993 and 1998. This was the final model of the air-cooled engine cars which are regarded by many as the last “real” Porsches.

Like the previous and current generation of the Porsche 911, there were several variants of the car manufactured, varying in body style, drive-trains, and technical specification. The ultimate model within the range has always been the GT2.

The GT2 is the racing version of the 911 model range. By the mid-1990s most of the sanctioning bodies of road racing had placed severe limitations, if not outright bans on the use of all-wheel drive systems. It was in this atmosphere that in order to take their turbo-engine 993 racing.

Porsche created the RWD-only GT2. The deletion of the front drive-train also brought with it the benefit of significant weight savings to the competition car.

To qualify the car for racing a limited number (57 in total) of street GT2s were created for homologation purposes, which are now highly prized and valued by Porsche 993 collectors.

The car is one of only 20 GT2 Club Sports ever produced; supplied new in Germany On the 8th March 1996 to Gernot Haverkamp of Delmenhorst.

From Porsche AG that # S392148 is the only GT2 ever produced in Blood Orange!

Accompanying the car is:
– Factory Build Specification Sheet
– Original Handbook Pack
– Original Fahrzeugbrief
– Varies Service and Maintenance Invoices dating back to 1996
– Historical UK MOT’s and tax discs
Immobiliser and spare keys

Hexagon Classics offer a unique opportunity to own one of the only 20 road going Club Sport derivative of the 993 GT2; with only 28,236 miles from new this is without doubt is one of the finest and most highly collectable 911’s of all time.

‘Risky Business’ Porsche 928 to be Sold at Auction Again July 2012 “There Is No Substitute”

Risky Business (soundtrack)

Risky Business (soundtrack) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Back in February 2012 I blogged about Tom Cruise’s 1979 Porsche 928 that fetched at the sum of $49,000. AllePorsche.com had reported that a 1979 Porsche 928 used during the filming of “Risky Business” was put up for sale by the Volo Auto Museum, located about an hour north of Chicago where the movie was set. In order to make room for a couple of new additions to its collection. The platinum metallic colored coupe was one of four 928s used during principal production of the film, according to museum director Brian Grams.

Apparently the Porsche 928 that appeared in the film “Risky Business” was sold for $49,000 to a Beverly Hills car dealer back in Feb 2012 >  read about it on FoxNews.com.

Now, the 928 Porsche is up for auction again according to Auction house “Profiles in History said the car will cross the block at its Hollywood sale in July 2012.

Its odometer reads 102,755 miles and it is in driving condition. It is expected to fetch $40,000 to $60,000.

The sleek Porsche 928 was the German company’s flagship model in the late 1970s and early 1980s. But today it is largely forgotten by all but two kinds of people: fans of front-engine GT cars and anyone who saw the 1983 coming-of-age classic “Risky Business.”

Cover of "Risky Business"

Cover of Risky Business

In the movie Tom Cruise plays Joel Goodsen, a high-school kid who wants to get into Princeton and have fun while his parents are away from home. Part of the fun includes an unauthorized spin in his father’s Porsche 928. Of course things go terribly wrong and the car winds up in Lake Michigan.

Auction house Profiles in History said the car will cross the block at its Hollywood sale in July. Luckily this is not the vehicle that went underwater on screen. The auction company said the car for sale, a 1979 model with a five-speed manual transmission, is one of four used in the film three for driving and close-up scenes and one so-called “dump car” that went into the lake.

The auction company said this car is the only one from the movie known to have survived. Its odometer reads 102,755 miles and it is in driving condition. It is expected to fetch $40,000 to $60,000.

The estimate is several times the typical cost of a garden-variety ’79 928 these days. For $10,000 or so you can find a well-kept example of what is still a fairly advanced car. The auction will test the value of the car’s film connection.

Anyone remember the tow truck operator’s famous movie quote when pulling this Porsche out of Lake Michigan?
“Who’s the U-Boat commander?” Classic!

LATEST VIDEO: PORSCHE DRIVES INTO WET CEMENT

 Porsche Drives Into Construction Site

Down by the Marina Green and the Marina Yacht Harbor in San Francisco, an inattentive Porsche driver has driven his fine German automobile into some roadwork along Marina Boulevard.

According to eyewitness reports on twitter, it took half a dozen city workers to dig out the vehicle, while the guy just sat in his car and assumed everyone else would do the work for him.

**********************************************************************************************************
On Thursday, the driver of the  Porsche 911 decided he’d take a shortcut around some construction cones and drove straight into wet concrete near Marina Green on Marina Blvd. in San Francisco.

“It was coned off,” according to Bobswire, a user of the Paceline bike forums. “He was just trying to sneak in from a side street. [The] concrete looked solid.”

Bobswire reports that the hapless driver remained stuck in his car. “He didn’t want to open the door and have concrete get in; the whole undercarriage and brakes will need to [be] cleaned or replaced.”

Whether the uncured pavement was concrete, asphalt concrete, or just plain cement is up for debate.

What’s unquestionable, that this is far the best Lightning McQueen impression you ever seen since Cars ?

The unidentified male driver was navigating San Francisco’s hilly roads  last week when he reportedly swerved to get ahead of stopped traffic.

Instead, his own sports car came to a complete stop when he drove it right into a patch of wet cement.

Unfortunately for the driver, not only was he stuck,  but he was also caught on tape by Jim Gorzelany, an automotive writer for Forbes who just happened to be driving by and posted the incident on the magazine’s website.

Gorzelany reports the man stayed in his six-figure sports car as construction workers scurried to shovel the cement out from underneath the car’s wheels before the cement set even more.

The car was eventually removed, according to Gorzelany, but it was already too late. He says the likely damage will likely require replacing the car’s undercarriage.

Warpaint: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars

Warpaint: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars

Go Faster by Sven Voelker gives deep insight into racing-car graphic design

You’d never guess it, but these big toys for big boys were at the height of their design.
Mechanics and team members – adorned racecars with all of those flashy stripes, logos, numbers and colors prevalent race today.
A whip-fast lesson in competitive “WAR PAINT”, visual anarchy and car designs.
They were to LOOK dangerous and be the WINNER.
This video provides a very interesting look at the design of racing cars in 70s. The graphics on these cars are incredible — very minimal and nothing at all like the logo-plastered cars of NASCAR.

Go Faster is a book by a German university professor, Sven Voelker giving the clear insight into the glory of racing-car graphic design.

This book makes car fans familiar with the fact that most of the racing cars like Porsche and Ferrari were given looks not by marketing strategists or designers, but by chance.

Go Faster is a collection of over one hundred examples of racecar design that documents the carefree anarchy in which they were created. In the book, each colorful racing car is featured next to a blank, white model.

Thanks to this juxtaposition, Go Faster shows its readers exactly how graphics modulate the look of the vehicle.
The neutral models also give readers ample opportunity to imagine their own possibilities for graphic design in motor sports.
This makes the book an ideal gift for anyone interested in racing and high speeds.

Stripes, numbers, colors, and logos – the graphic visual look of a racecar has to stand out from all the others as they go zooming by.
Most people don’t know that racing cars from the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, and Lotus were given their looks not by marketing strategists or designers, but by pure chance.

The time and effort invested in the look of racecars is strangely out of balance compared to that used to shape the bodywork or engineer the technology present in the car.
But perhaps it is precisely this amateur quality, this anarchy and randomness that results in the irresistible attraction that racing cars and their graphics have on us.

There are, of course, countless books on racing cars, but Go Faster is the first to focus on the graphic design of these machines.

At the same time, the book not only gives the readers a chance to know how graphics modulate the look of the vehicle but also the opportunities to imagine their own possibilities for graphic design in motor sports.

Go Faster gives meticulous attention to minutest details and discusses how the numbers, stripes, logos and colours in vehicle are not a willy nilly affair but purposefully placed by the designer team. Well, this book comes out to be a perfect gift for the racing nerds and car freaks.

While the go-faster stripe is a classic design element of the racing car, the look of these vehicles is rarely created by a designer. Sven Voelker looks at the unexplored area of fast and furious graphic art in the new book,…….

Classic 1994 Marketing Video Porsche 911 993 Series Commercial – Are you listening?

Classic 1994 marketing video for the Porsche 911 (993 Series) television commercial….Great production if I may add. This was many years ago of course. Sweet promo piece…Patrick Stewart’s voice takes you back to the Porsche commercials for the 993, includes commentary by Hurely Haywood…This one’s definitely a keeper.

The voice that speaks to you, knows you better than any
other. The voice that knows what makes you happy. The voice knows what
makes you sad. The voice that knows.

There is a place not to far away, where people heard the voice
and listen, it said to them, build something. Build something pure.
Build something that isn’t temporary, disposable, build something to
inspire all those that experience it. Build a monument. ……….

“…looking for things that weren’t created, to be something to everyone… but everything to someone…”.
That sentence says a lot…

via youtube.com

Music is by Deep Forest

 Porsche – “Are You Listening?”

Your heart is still speaking all you have to do is listen.

Like everything, LIFE is a journey. A journey
that begins with a beat of a heart. And the voice that comes with
it…the voice that we  haven’t yet been conditioned to ignore, so we
listen to what it tells us. We follow where it leads us, we trust it,
were children…we are happy, but somewhere between then and now, we
lose touch with the voice, no matter how closely it whispers, or how
loud it cry’s.

Instead are ears are tuned
to other things, like the stock reports, 6 o’clock news, then one day,
putting the forks in the dishwasher or mowing the lawn, we happened to
catch the glimpse of joy in our children’s faces….and we REMEMBER, what it felt like.

Remember ….what it felt like to listen to that voice in our
hearts…and go with it. Then suddenly out of nowhere this SPARK of
wisdom occurs. It becomes very clear. It’s NOT to late. Your heart’s still speaking. All you have to do is LISTEN.
