Porsche launches campaign accompanying world premiere of the new 911

Advertising campaign “Porsche Identity. The new 911.”

Sophisticated 3D animations and spectacular images communicate Porsche identity

Stuttgart. Right on cue for the world premiere of the new 911 Carrera at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is launching a multimedia firework extravaganza. TV spots, adverts, film clips and web specials featuring spectacular images and sophisticated 3D animations will showcase the Porsche identity.

Because the 911 icon personifies what the Porsche brand stands for like no other model: tradition and innovation, performance and practicality, design and functionality, exclusivity and social acceptance.

Webspecials “Porsche Identity. The new 911.”

The new TV spot relates what you get when you pack loads of good ideas into a lump of metal. A metal plate acts as a projection screen for the most emotional moments in Porsche history, and begins to change shape in response. Racing victories, engineering achievements, customer adulation, the childhood dream of the sports car – all this forges the metal, in a unique way, further and further again into the new 911, which is finally released into the real world.

The 30-second TV spot, combining historical film material and new pictures, was created entirely in CGI technology – a 3D animation that was behind the spectacular effects in the cinema blockbuster “Avatar”.

App “Porsche Identity. The new 911.”

The film sequences entailed an odyssey along breathtaking Californian coast roads, through the Redwood National Park with its impressive giant trees, through the Sierra Nevada, the searing midday heat and icy night-time cold of Death Valley. In twelve days, the 75-strong crew covered 2,500 miles and produced 15,000 metres of film material.

The photo shoot for the advertising campaign involved six weeks in New Zealand, where the varied, unspoilt landscapes provided the ideal backdrop for the 911. All the shots depict the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S together but with one model always dominating, drawing the beholder’s attention to the new design details.

The 911 experience is what counts on the Internet and on mobile platforms. A special 360° flight around the vehicle at www.porsche.com shows all the technical details, and the driving dynamics can be experienced at first hand in a virtual test drive at the wheel of the 911.

Porsche’s crowd-puller: The new 911 Carrera-2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show

Porsche at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show with four world premieres

Stuttgart. With the new 911 Carrera, the next completely redeveloped generation of the sports car classic by Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, celebrates its world premiere at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show.

The sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its flat, stretched silhouette, exciting contours and precisely designed details, yet from the very first glance it remains unmistakably a 911. True to the 911 tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language with its tendons and muscles exudes power and elegance. The 100 millimetre (3.94 inch) longer wheelbase and reduced height combined with the up to 20-inch wheels underpin the athletic appearance.

Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 raises the performance and efficiency bar yet again. All Coupés get by with significantly less than ten litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. Fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 per cent lower compared with its predecessor. The Carrera with the new 350 hp (257 kW) 3.4-litre boxer engine and optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) consumes a mere 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres based on the NEDC – 1.6 l/100 km less than its predecessor. Also, at 194 g/km CO2, it is the first Porsche sports car to make it below the 200 g/km mark.

911 Carrera S

With the Carrera S as well, with its 3.8-litre boxer engine and what is now 400 hp (294 kW), fuel consumption when paired with the optional PDK is reduced by 14 per cent or 1.5 l/100 km to 8.7 l/100 km despite 15 hp (11 kW) more power. That equates to CO2 emissions of 205 g/km.

The all-new, lightweight body is an intelligent aluminium-steel construction. It is responsible for a significant proportion of the weight reduction of up to 45 kilograms. New active control systems elevate driving dynamics to an unprecedented level. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers Porsche’s typical precision and feedback, and also helps to economise on fuel. Moreover, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission is featured as standard. Additional systems and functions such as auto start/stop, thermal management and electrical system recuperation further enhance the new Carrera’s efficiency.

Also celebrating a world premiere at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show is the Panamera Diesel, the long-range cruiser in Porsche’s Gran Turismo stable with an impressive turn of speed. With a range in excess of 1,200 kilometres on a full 80 litre tank, it is a good bet as a distinctly economical GT saloon thanks to its fuel consumption of only 6.3 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres based on the NEDC with optional low-friction tyres.

Panamera Diesel

The new Panamera Diesel is powered by a smooth-running, three-litre V6 250 hp (184 kW) engine and a brawny maximum torque of 550 Newton metres. Power transmission is handled by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

911 GT3 RS 4.0

With the 911 GT3 RS 4.0, which is making its debut in front of an international public in Frankfurt, one of the most popular, coveted and successful Porsche racing pedigree production cars is entering the home straight.

Limited to 600 vehicles, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 brings together in a road car all the attributes that have made the Porsche 911 GT3 a serial winner on the race track.

The four-litre displacement sports engine, the largest engine ever used in a production 911, produces 500 hp (368 kW). At 125 hp per litre, the engine is also the most powerful naturally aspirated engine. This propels the 911 GT2 RS 4.0 around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in 7:27 minutes.

The Cayman S Black Edition limited to 500 units is also celebrating its debut in Frankfurt. The all-black, mid-engine Coupé boasts even better performance than the Cayman S and offers especially lavish equipment. The Cayman S Black Edition is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine with power output increased by 10 hp to 330 hp (243 kW). The greater power feeds directly through into the two-seater’s performance. The acceleration times from nought to 100 km/h (62 mph) are improved to 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission and to 5.0 seconds with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK).

Cayman S Black Edition

The world premieres are accompanied by two vehicles, which provide impressive proof of the tradition and future of Porsche Intelligent Performance. The Boxster E and the legendary “Semper Vivus”, the world’s first fully-functional, full-hybrid car. The Boxster E, with one electric motor apiece on front and rear axle, runs on purely electric power with four-wheel drive and is equivalent to a Boxster S in terms of driving dynamics. Together with two other Boxster Es, in which an electric motor drives the rear wheels, the prototype is being used to explore the everyday practicality of all-electric vehicles and how they are used, especially in terms of driving and battery charging.

The faithful reconstruction of the “Semper Vivus” pays tribute to the visionary invention of Ferdinand Porsche, who in building it in 1900 created the first ever functional vehicle with a series hybrid drive. The faithful replica, the visionary design of which impresses to this very day, was the outcome of a collaboration between Porsche Engineering and Karosseriebau Drescher, a coachbuilding company based in Hinterzarten (Germany).

Porsche looks forward to welcoming its visitors, prospective purchasers and customers at the IAA Motor Show in Hall 3.0, Stand A12. The press conference will take place on September 13th at the Porsche Stand.

Dr. Wolfgang Porsche: “Such a success is only possible as a team” – Nürburgring 24 hour race

Nürburgring 24 hour race

Dr. Wolfgang Porsche:

“Such a success is only possible as a team”

Stuttgart. With a triumph for Porsche, the Nürburgring 24 hour race came to an end.

After 156 laps on the legendary Nordschleife, Porsche works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany), Timo Bernhard (Germany) and Romain Dumas (France) together with Lucas Luhr (Switzerland) won with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Manthey Racing.

For Porsche and Manthey Racing, this marks the fifth victory together in the last six years at the long distance classic in Germany’s Eifel region and for Porsche the eleventh overall victory at this race.

Quotes after the race

Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Porsche AG:

“I’m overwhelmed. Such a success is only possible as a team. I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this. Today, I’m especially proud because we are small but great and successful.”

Matthias Müller, CEO of the Executive Board at Porsche AG:

“This is the first time I’ve been to a 24 hour race for Porsche and I certainly hadn’t anticipated it being so emotional. It was a very great weekend for the Porsche enterprise. All the employees at the track have proven what Porsche Intelligent Performance really stands for. Thank you to all the drivers – not only to the winning troupe, but particularly to the squad in the Hybrid-Porsche. All those drivers put in an excellent effort, as well. And thanks to all those people who worked behind the scenes.”

Wolfgang Hatz, Board Member for Research and Development at Porsche AG:

Wolfgang Hatz, Vorstand Forschung und Entwicklung

“I’m proud to be part of such a troupe. What we saw this weekend was an immense team effort. The winning squad virtually just refuelled and changed tyres. I promise that we will continue keeping the revs high in motorsport. There are wonderful things ahead of us. I’m looking forward to the future.”

Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport:

Hartmut Kristen, Porsche-Sportchef

“Congratulations to the crew from Manthey Racing and our staff from Weissach. They did a brilliant job and contributed greatly to our success. I’m very pleased that, after all the wrangling in the run-up, there was a clean, sporting decision on the track. Also decisive for our win was that the 911 GT3 RSR was one hundred percent reliable and we had to put in one fuel stop less than the competition. You would expect this from a Porsche. Of course, our drivers also deserve a huge compliment. Once again, they all conducted themselves faultlessly. That also applies to the quartet in the 911 GT3 R Hybrid that wasn’t able to bring home the success it deserved because of two mechanical problems and an accident. As far as pure power is concerned and with its efficiency, the car has performed as we had expected with its innovative drive concept. It’s a great shame that the results don’t reflect this.”

Marc Lieb (No. 18, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Manthey Racing):

Marc Lieb

“Winning this year is one of the most emotional moments of my career. We really didn’t expect to conquer here. After the difficult practices, we pulled ourselves together and said, ‘Let’s give our all’. We didn’t make any mistakes and the entire team put in a superb effort. It’s simply fantastic.”

Timo Bernhard (No. 18, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Manthey Racing):

Timo Bernhard

“The fifth victory at this race is something very special, especially because this year was particularly difficult. We had no other choice than to attack from the first moment. At the end of the day, everything went perfectly. My special thanks goes to our team boss Olaf Manthey. He lives for this race like no other and puts his whole heart into it year after year.”

Romain Dumas (No. 18, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Manthey Racing):

Romain Dumas

“My fourth win at this race was the hardest. The competition this year was tougher than ever before. We all had to give one hundred percent. We took up the race from 18th on the grid and made the most out of it. I got a fright at one point during the night when a BMW and I touched. I was really afraid that the car was damaged, because right at that point I had no radio contact and I couldn’t ask if I should come in to the pits. So I listened to the car and noticed that everything was okay. Now it’s time to celebrate.”

Lucas Luhr (No. 18, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Manthey Racing):

Lucas Luhr

“Our plan was to go all out during the night to get ahead. That worked. We simply had to keep the pressure on from the first to the last moment, because the competition was fierce. During one of my stints there was a slight shunt on the front left, but we taped it up and kept driving. I feel we deserved this win.”

Joerg Bergmeister (No. 9, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Porsche Team Manthey):

Joerg Bergmeister

“It was certainly one of the most difficult races of my career. The power performance and above all the efficiency of the car were great, even better than last year. It’s also so much fun to drive thanks to the Hybrid-boost. I hope we can continue working like this. And one day luck will be on our side.”

Richard Lietz (No. 9, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Porsche Team Manthey):

Richard Lietz

“The performance of our car was super, all the drivers did a great job and our mechanics put in a mammoth effort. It’s a shame that these efforts weren’t rewarded. But I’m very pleased that our squad decided to pull out all stops and get to the finish line. We owed this to our mechanics and the Porsche fans on the ‘Ring.”

Marco Holzer (No. 9, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Porsche Team Manthey):

Marco Holzer

“I reckon I was driving one of the best cars in the entire field. We always clocked good lap times. We lost the chance to win through the mechanical problems and an accident. The effort our mechanics made is something I’ve never seen before. And that’s why our goal was to never give up as long as the wheels kept turning. In this regard it’s a small consolation that we crossed the finish line after 24 hours and that we showed the Porsche fans at the track that we never give up.”

Patrick Long (No. 9, Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Porsche Team Manthey):

Patrick Long

“After the flange broke we were out of the top 100 contenders but worked our way up to 28th. For me, not giving up fits in with the Porsche philosophy. I wholeheartedly congratulate our colleagues in the 911 GT3 RSR. Reliability and faultless driving was the key.”

With the faithfully reconstructed ancestor of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the Porsche Factory Drivers Jörg Bergmeister, Richard Lietz, Patrick Long and Marco Holzer  drove the Hybrid among the 24-hour Nürburgring fans to the Porsche autograph session – almost silently, because the hybrid is all-electric.

Lohner-Porsche “Semper Vivus” with Porsche factory drivers

Ferdinand Porsche, the visionary of his time entered a new technical ground with the construction of “Semper Vivus”. The drive concept of the brilliant designer and pioneer, has been taken up by Porsche with the development of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, thus ushered in over a year ago as a new chapter in history of the Porsche 911.

Lohner-Porsche “Semper Vivus” with Porsche factory drivers

Porsche GT3 R Hybrid’s  first race in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring in 2010 made worldwide headlines: eight hours into the race at the forefront of the field on victory course, was an impressive example of the ” Porsche Intelligent Performance ” More power on less fuel, more efficiency and lower CO2 emissions – on the racetrack and on the road.

Lohner Porsche “Semper Vivus”

Despite the much lower speed to drive the first hybrid car, is no less strenuous than full throttle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the 911 GT3 R hybrid. With a front axle weight of 1,060 kilograms – 830 kilograms  – and the steering without power assistance is hard work. But the Porsche drivers are well trained – and met with much applause by fans during the demonstration drive.

PORSCHE NEWS: Le Mans 24 Hours, Interim report 10.00 hrs – Porsche teams fight for podium positions

Le Mans 24 Hours

Porsche teams fight for podium positions

Stuttgart. Porsche’s customer teams have an eventful night behind them. With five hours to go until the finish of one of the toughest Le Mans races in history, the teams in the GTE Pro class currently sit in positions three, four, seven and eight.

Piloting the best-placed 911 GT3 RSR are the winning trio from last year. Porsche’s factory pilots Marc Lieb (Germany), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Wolf Henzler (Germany) fought their way through the field to now rank third thanks to the reliability of their 911, the perfect work of the drivers and the swift pit stops of the Felbermayr-Proton crew.

“I can’t remember the last time I experienced so many accidents at a Le Mans race,” said Marc Lieb, the two-time GT class winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours. “I don’t find it okay that many of the drivers are so extremely aggressive. Luckily we had no problems in the night and we are hoping for a podium finish.”

The drivers of the French IMSA Performance Matmut 911 can thank their fourth place at 10 a.m. to the fact that the night hours ran smoothly. Works driver Patrick Pilet, team owner Raymond Narac and Carrera Cup champion Nicolas Armindo (all France) all put in double stints. As planned, the brake pads were changed once.

Le Mans newcomer Armindo was surprised at the harshness of the competitors in the more powerful classes.

“Sometimes it seems we are completely invisible to them when they are lapping us,” says Armindo. “They drive as if we weren’t even there.”

After leading for quite some time, the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by the American Flying Lizard Motorsports team lost an excellent fourth place within striking distance of the podium six hours before the finish. Works drivers Joerg Bergmeister (Germany), Patrick Long (USA) and seasoned racer Lucas Luhr (Germany) share driving duties in double stints and are doing a faultless job. However, due to a problem in the engine electrics, the 911 was forced to take an unscheduled pit stop and fell back from fourth to eighth position.

The Belgian ProSpeed Competition squad experienced a problem free start to the race only to suffer a sitback while lying in a promising fourth. A small leak in the water cooling system made repairs necessary in the early morning hours, which relegated works driver Marco Holzer (Germany), Marc Goossens (Belgium) and Jaap van Lagen (Netherlands) back down the field. Extreme bad luck plagued the second driver trio of Felbermayr-Proton. Suffering tyre damage Abdulaziz Al Faisal (Saudi Arabia) flew from the track in the fast Indianapolis corner. The Pro-911, which he shares with Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Bryce Miller (USA), was so badly damaged that the team was unable to repair it. Luckily, Al Faisal climbed out uninjured.

Contesting the GTE Am class, Horst Felbermayr Senior (Team Proton Competition) fell victim to an opponent at 8.00 a.m. when his 911 was hit hard on the driver’s side of the 911 GT3 RSR. The Austrian was transported to hospital for an examination. In the same class, a 2010-spec 911 GT3 RSR fielded by the French Larbre Competition team currently ranks second.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid celebrates historic 1st VICTORY at the Nurburgring May 28th, 2011

Basis for the first victory was certainly the lower consumption of the hybrid compared to the other cars.

At the fourth round of the VLN, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid celebrate the first victory – only two stops as the key to success

Less recharge, drive longer: this is the recipe for success of the enhanced Porsche 911 GT3 R hybrid.

With version 2.0, Porsche works driver Richard Lietz, Marco Holzer and Patrick Long drove in the fourth round of the Endurance Championship for the first victory of the hybrid race car from Weissach.

While almost all direct competitors stopped three times to refuel in the pits, the hybrid with just two stops, was victory and checkered flag for the Porsche hybrid.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with  Manthey Porsche and works driver Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Lucas Luhr Manthey-pilot also came with two stops and made the Porsche double victory perfectly.

The second race of the 911 GT3 R hybrid in the Endurance Championship in 2011 is the successful completion of the intensive preparation for the 24-hour race Nürburgring 25-26. June.

“We are using the technical specifications of the vehicle and the reliability of the hybrid system extremely satisfied,” says Porsche head of motorsport Hartmut Kristen.

“We have over the competition a pit stop saving and go with less energy input from the outside similarly fast lap times. This is what we mean by Porsche Intelligent Performance. I am particularly pleased that even the 911 GT3 RSR by Manthey Racing the known efficiency of the Porsche 911 models could prove, and was number two. “

The focus of the development of the Porsche 911 GT3 R hybrid was clearly on the increase in efficiency. For this, the vehicle weight was reduced from 1,350 kg to 1,300, which even the hybrid components are involved. Their weight was reduced by 20 percent by direct optimization. The general hybrid layout was taken from the 2010 model.

The power used in the portal axle two electric motors has been increased from every 60 to 75 kilowatts. Overall, the pilot of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 seconds, an additional capacity of around 200 horsepower, which corresponds to a lap on the Nordschleife of an additional conventional capacity of approximately 23 kW (32 hp). The electric power is automatically supplied as programmed when the accelerator pedal.

In addition, the pilot, the hybrid-electric auxiliary power to retrieve it manually, for example when overtaking. While the portal axle drives the front wheels, was the 4.0-liter, now 465 hp six-cylinder boxer engine that delivers its power to the rear axle, cut back in power, and optimized in terms of fuel consumption.

“We ran like clockwork with hybrid penalty,” said Marco Holzer.

“The key to success was now near the low fuel consumption and reliable technology that all drivers were on a uniformly high level of the road and have made no mistakes,” added teammate Richard Lietz.

A trouble-free race also went to the yellow-green Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of the Manthey team.

With seven seconds behind occupied Lieb, Luhr and Dumas in second place.

“This was an almost perfect race. Unfortunately, our 911 GT3 R, the cockpit I’ve shared with Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas, roughly by a competitor of the runway bowled,” said double starter Marc Lieb..

Porsche 911 Turbo S China 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Nr.01/10

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Porsche entered the Chinese market in 2001 and in this one decade they’ve been present there they enjoyed an enormous success. So they announced a celebratory edition of the 911 on this occasion.

It is the Porsche 911 Turbo S China 10th Anniversary Edition which as you might have already guessed is limited to 10 units, each sporting a numbered plaque.

Porsche 911 Turbo S China 10th Anniversary Edition porsche 911 turbo s china 6

The Turbo S 3.8-liter flat-six makes 530 hp and sends them to all four wheels via a PDK gearbox. So the technicalities are similar to other Turbo S models. But the visual features set it apart.

The China edition is finished in a a special Gold Bronze Metallic garnished with carbon and high gloss bits. It even comes with Fuchs 19-inch  wheels borrowed from the 911 Sport Classic special edition. The car also has a factory-fitted aero kit with bigger front spoiler and rear wing. A pretty unique 911 then.

But then it has hefty price tag of nearly 550,000 USD! That’s most likely due to the Chinese tax on imported cars, because a 911 wouldn’t cost that much no matter how special it is.

Ten Years of Faith: Porsche Commemorates a Decade in Mainland ChinaAnniversary year honours outstanding growth in China market

Shanghai. Porsche China celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2011, looking back on a decade in which it has made history, broken records and led the automotive industry in bringing sports cars that are ‘Made in Faith’ to the Porsche enthusiasts of China. Since the opening of Porsche Centre Beijing Central in 2001, China has grown to become the second largest market for Porsche worldwide, achieving stunning growth over the past decade: from 27 cars sold in 2002, to 13,856 in 2010 in Mainland China.

The sports car maker’s illustrious legacy has been built with faith in its ability to meet the needs of the world’s most dynamic automotive market. By becoming an official subsidiary of Porsche AG in 2008, Porsche marked the beginning of a new era in its China history. The new subsidiary allowed Porsche greater flexibility to successfully satisfy the demands of the Chinese market. To date, the company has opened 31 Porsche Centres in China, with September 2010 seeing Porsche China open its first directly-operated Porsche Centre at Shanghai Pudong. This flagship facility is now a vital component of future Porsche operations in China, setting a benchmark for innovative new strategies and initiatives and making Porsche China even more responsive to the needs of customers.

Further landmark events are scheduled for 2011, as Porsche China continues its programme of expansion with grand opening ceremonies at Porsche Centres Taizhou, Zhengzhou, Haikou and Chengdu Airport. As a symbol of its phenomenal growth over the last decade, Porsche China welcomed its 50,000th customer this year, demonstrating the rising popularity of the marque as it moves forward into a second decade in the China market.

Mr. Bernhard Maier, Vice President Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG said, “The achievements of Porsche in Mainland China have been a significant factor in the success of Porsche across the world in the last ten years. With an on-going commitment to this market, we will continue to expand our network of Porsche Centres, bringing our Chinese customers ultimate sports cars that are instilled with Porsche DNA and provide the standards of performance, style and agility that are derived from Porsche Intelligent Performance.”

Throughout its first decade in China, Porsche has nurtured an automotive culture that values intelligent sports car engineering. Since Porsche first thrilled crowds at Auto Shanghai 2005 with the Carrera GT super sports car, Chinese enthusiasts have enjoyed yet more magnificent model premieres from the RS Spyder at Auto Shanghai 2007 and the Cayenne Turbo S at Auto China 2008 in Beijing. The World Premiere of the Porsche Panamera in 2009 – notably held on the 94th Floor of the Shanghai World Financial Centre – also underlined the great faith that Porsche has invested in the China market. More recently, Chinese crowds were treated to a glimpse of the mid-engine 918 Spyder at Auto China 2010 and the innovative new racing lab, the 918 RSR, at this year’s Auto Shanghai.

In supporting this enthusiasm for its unique sports cars, Porsche China has welcomed events that celebrate the faith of Porsche in its past, present and future. From 2002, the Porsche World Roadshow has toured China, proving to fans nationwide that there is no more exciting way to experience Porsche than on the racetrack. This sentiment is undoubtedly supported by the aspiring racers and customers that have made the Porsche Sport Driving School so hugely popular. Enthusiasts have also had a chance to take their passion for Porsche on the road with the Porsche Drive to Excellence. A fully comprehensive range of driving activities has been provided by Fascination Porsche since 2009, with a selection of famous sports cars from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and current model lines bringing unforgettable driving experiences to cities across China.

With popular acclaim has come significant praise, as China’s best automotive publications have continued to recognise the brilliance of Porsche Intelligent Performance. Close to 70 awards have been bestowed on the Porsche range, including ‘Best Imported Sports Car’ for the 911 Carrera from Auto Magazine, Auto World Magazine’s ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the Cayenne SUV and the title of ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ from Orient Auto for the Panamera. Porsche has also been honoured with the ultimate accolade from Auto Motor und Sport for two consecutive years, as ‘Best Sport Brand’ in 2010 and ‘Best Brand’ in 2011.

Highlighting its legendary racing history, Porsche has continued to bring the excitement of motor sports to new audiences in China. From 2001, the marque has triumphed throughout Asia, bringing its unique motorsport legacy to events from the Transsyberia Rally of 2008 to the Intercontinental Le Mans Series at Zhuhai in 2010. Since roaring off the grid in 2003, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) has become China’s most popular one-make series, contesting rounds each year on racetracks across China. The success of the series has proved inspirational to Chinese teams, with PCCA legends such as Darryl O’Young and Christian Menzel taking to the track alongside mainland Chinese racers such as Wang Jianwei and Rose Tan with the support of thousands of Chinese fans. The success of teams from Mainland China, such as Team Jebsen, Team StarChase, Team BetterLife, Team Kangshun and Team C&D, point to a bright future for the series, which has now been under the management of Porsche China since January 2011.

As Porsche celebrates the many milestones of its first decade in China, it continues to demonstrate its commitment to China’s social development through the ‘Empowering the Future’ initiative. Conceived after Porsche contributed an initial RMB 5 million in the aftermath of the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008, the collaboration with UNICEF has supplied educational resources and training to schools that were affected by the natural disaster. Through direct donations and fund raising programmes such as the ‘Empowering the Future’ Art Contest with Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Porsche has now contributed more than RMB 10.2 million and four modified Cayennes to the initiative, improving the lives of over 55,000 students in 260 schools throughout the region and affirming the strength of its confidence in China’s future.

In tribute to a first decade of achievement for Porsche China, customers, media and Porsche representatives from across the country were invited to the Grand Hyatt Beijing on May 20- 22 for an evening of gala celebrations. Guest of honour Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche Automobil Holding SE and grandson of company founder Ferdinand Porsche, was joined by Mr. Bernhard Maier, Vice President Sales and Marketing Porsche AG, in addressing the VIP audience. Both expressed their excitement at the success of Porsche China while underlining the continued importance of this market to worldwide Porsche operations. Renowned singer Na Ying also joined the event, presented by celebrity hosts Tsai Kang Yong and Wang Youjia.

The ten year anniversary celebration was complemented by the third annual Fascination Porsche event at Beijing Goldenport Circuit from May 21-22, as invited guests enjoyed a dazzling array of Porsche sports cars and activities within an authentic motor sport setting. Arriving from all corners of the world, the event features a showcase of some of the most famous cars in the history of Porsche. The award-winning line-up of Museum cars included championship racers such as the Porsche RS Spyder and Porsche 935, and models such as the Porsche 356 Speedster. Attendees were also treated to the sight of the Porsche 917 KH – originally sponsored by mineral oil producer Gulf and winner of classic races such as Daytona and Le Mans. Throughout the Fascination Porsche event, a range of track driving activities brought Porsche Intelligent Performance to life behind the wheel of contemporary models such the Boxster S, Cayman S and Panamera.

Mr. Helmut Broeker, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche China, said, “For the tenth anniversary of Porsche China, I am proud of the many milestones we have achieved so far. The successful expansion of our Porsche Centre network has brought flawless and consistent service closer to our customers across China. As a result of these great efforts, we welcomed the 50,000th Porsche customer in this market this year. With this growing community of Porsche enthusiasts, Porsche has been credited with bringing sports car culture to this emerging market. I would like to offer my thanks to our Porsche Centre dealers, customers, partners and media friends who have made this past decade a triumph. Together we have shared in China’s great prosperity, and together we look forward to many more decades of outstanding accomplishment for Porsche in China.”

Porsche New top model with all-wheel drive and 408 hp (300 kW) Porsche just added a number: 4.

911 Carrera 4 GTS Carrera 4 GTS available as Coupé and Cabriolet with top-of-the-range Carrera engine

The 911 Carrera GTS made a clear statement as the most sporty 911 Carrera of all times.

Porsche just added a number: 4.

Discover the new all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4 GTS on http://www.porsche.com/microsite/carrera4-gts/germany.aspx

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is widening the top end of its Carrera model line and pairing up each of the two 911 Carrera GTS with an all-wheel drive twin. That means that the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé and Cabriolet will combine the 408 hp (300 kW) top of the range engine of the Carrera GTS family with the intelligent, all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM). Driving dynamics are not the only source of attraction. Economics are as well.

Thanks to Porsche Intelligent Performance the new all-wheel 911s consume no more than the equivalent Carrera 4S version, the Coupé remains at 11.0 l/100 km (25.7 mpg imp.) and the Cabriolet at 11.2 l/100 km (25.2 mpg imp.) respectively based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Moreover both of them boast an even more comprehensive standard equipment package compared with the Carrera 4S models.

The 911 Carrera 4 GTS power unit has its origins in the 3.8-litre, six-cylinder
Carrera S engine.

A wholesale revamping of the intake duct added 23 hp (17 kW), taking the power output to 408 hp (300 kW) at 7,300 rpm. The special aspiration system not only improves peak power output but flexibility and power development as well thanks to a more generous torque curve in the lower and middle engine speed range. 320 Newton metres kick in from as low as 1,500 rpm; the six-cylinder engine delivers its rated torque of 420 Nm in the broad engine speed range from 4,200 rpm and 5,600 rpm.

The sports exhaust system fitted as standard ensures a distinctly sporty sound. It invests the new Carrera 4 GTS with an unmistakable acoustic signature and the rear view of its tail pipe with its unique black surface design lends it a unique character.

At full power the Carrera 4 GTS Coupé sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, the Cabriolet in 4.8 seconds.

The Carrera 4 GTS is fitted as standard with a six-speed manual transmission but the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed is available as an option if desired.

The PDK shaves an additional 0.2 seconds respectively off the acceleration times from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph).

In the Carrera 4 GTS as well, PTM all-wheel drive stands for Porsche’s typical driving pleasure with even more driving stability, traction and agile handling.

What’s more, just how single-mindedly the Carrera 4 GTS is designed for driving dynamics is evident from the use of a standard limited-slip differential. This mechanical rear differential lock contributes to the driving dynamics of the electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.

The PTM achieves this by directing the optimal proportion of the engine torque to the front wheels via a multiple-plate clutch.

Visually, the new Carrera 4 GTS models with all-wheel drive differ in points of detail from earlier variants with rear-wheel drive: In addition to the type name on the doors and rear lid, the distinguishing characteristic of all models with all-wheel drive is the additional reflective stripe between the taillights. What the Carrera GTS models have in common is the 911’s wide body, otherwise reserved for the all-wheel version of the 911s, and the rear axle track width that goes with it.

In numerous other details as well the GTS models differ both visually and technically from the other Carrera models. For example, they run on 19 inch RS Spyder wheels in black with central locking and gloss-lathed rim flanges fitted with 305/30 ZR 19 tyres on the rear axle.

Additional visual features include the Sport-Design front apron with black painted spoiler lip and special side skirts, also in black. Driver and passenger are accommodated on sports seats.

Typical of the GTS, the emphatically sporty black Alcantara covering on centre panels, steering wheel rim, gearshift and handbrake lever, door handles and door storage box lid and extension are offered as standard in addition to a range of leather upholstery options.

The 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé, including country-specific equipment and VAT at 19 per cent, is offered in Germany at a price of 111,956 euro, the Cabriolet costs 122,071 euro. Both models will be on sale in Germany from July 2011.

ebay Porsche Auction of the Day: 1989 Porsche 953 Rothmans Rally Tribute

Another fantastic ebay auction

You asked for it.  You got it.  You wanted an all-wheel-drive Rothmans Rally Car and here it is.

“Ferris Buellers Day Off” Movie House & a Rothmans Porsche 911 Rally Tribute Car by jeremycliff, on Flickr

There’s some serious lust for Porsches–especially those with a more esoteric flare. Its a clone/tribute of the Rothmans Porsche 953 rally cars that ran around Africa in the early eighties. Very nicely put together and going for a fraction of the cost of a real deal version.

If you remember July of 2010 when the 2-wheel-drive 1980 Rothmans Rally Car sold to GoPro for upwards of $70,000 on eBay.   Although that car was stunning in everyway the owner knew he needed something more.  He searched the country high and low for the perfect donor and finally found an accident free, perfectly maintained, weekend driver, pilot owned, all original with every factory option 1989 1/2 Porsche 964 C4.

This is how the car started… a gorgeous, perfectly maintained 1989 Porsche 964 Carrera 4

1989 Porsche 911/964 by jeremycliff, on Flickr

Short description from the eBay ad…
Meet AWD Paris…
She is an absolutely stunning freshly completed Porsche 911 Paris, Alger, Dakar Winning 953 Off Road Rally Tribute Car that has been painstakingly built over last year. She was built as a tribute to the winning Porsche 953 raced from Paris to Dakar in 1984 Piloted by Rene Metge and Dominique Lemoyne. Paris originally started life as a 1989 1/2 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 in PERFECT condition and is perfectly street legal and plated and titled in Illinois.

There is only three (3) of these factory cars, two (2) owned by Porsche and one in private hands.  Although this is a reproduction, most observers will swear this is the real deal…

Porsche 911 Paris/Dakar Rally Tribute by jeremycliff, on Flickr

Over the last couple months Jeremy Cliff has been shooting and prepping photos and video of “Paris”, this Rothmans Porsche 911 Tribute Car, the time has finally come to put the car up for sale and release the photos. Jeremy wanted to do something very different and have a unique location wise…. I’m sure most of you will recognize it, but for those that do not the “house” location is actually the house that was used in the famous 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. What better spot to shoot a historic vehicle then in a historic location?

The car is currently for sale on eBay and can be found here:

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche has announced it will unveil an all-new model in a world premiere at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show January 10th. Porsche has an official presence at the Detroit show this year for the first time since 2007.

Porsche has been hinting for some time that its return to the Detroit show would include an impressive debut.

Speculation is that it will be a supercar that could be a version of the 918 Spyder concept that made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show and was recently green-lighted for production a few months later. The German magazine Auto Zeitung reported earlier this month that the car could be the 929, a “no-compromise two-seat supercar” based on the 918 that would slot in above the 911.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – The legendary designer of the Porsche 911 turns 75

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – The legendary designer of the Porsche 911 turns 75

Stuttgart. Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Honorary Chair of the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, celebrated his 75th birthday on 11 December 2010. As a designer of true genius, F.A. Porsche was the creator of such legendary automobiles as the 904 Carrera GTS, or the Porsche 911. After stepping down from the management of Porsche KG, in 1972 he founded the “Porsche Design“ Studio, and achieved worldwide fame and recognition as an independent product designer.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was born on 11 December 1935 in Stuttgart, the eldest son of Dorothea and Ferry Porsche. As a child his world was already being influenced by automobiles, with him spending a lot of time in the design offices and development workshops of his grandfather Ferdinand Porsche. In 1943 the family, together with the company of Porsche, relocated to Austria, where he went to school in Zell am See. After returning to Stuttgart in 1950, he passed the final school examination, the “Abitur”, at the Waldorf School, and registered at the College of Design in Ulm. In 1958 F.A. Porsche joined the design department of what was at that time Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG.

His talent for design very soon became apparent when, with the Type 754 “T7“, he formally presented to the world the direction which was to be followed in the succession to the 356 Series. In 1962 he took charge of the management of the Porsche Design Studio, and one year later took the world by storm with the Porsche 901 (also referred to as the 911). As well as passenger cars, F.A. Porsche was also deeply involved in the design of the racing cars of the 1960’s. Among his most famous designs were the Formula One Type 804 racer, or the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, which motoring fans have always regarded as one of the finest and most beautiful racing vehicles ever made.

With the conversion of Porsche KG into a share company in 1971/72, F.A. Porsche and all the other family members stepped aside from the operational business of the company. As a shareholder and member of the Supervisory Board, he oversaw the development of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG for many years, and from 1990 to 1993 he served as the Chair of the Supervisory Board. In 2005 he passed the mantle of responsibility as a Porsche AG Supervisory Board member to his son Oliver, and took on the position of Honorary Chair of the Board.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche founded the “Porsche Design Studio“ in Stuttgart in 1972, the headquarters being relocated to Zell am See in Austria in 1974. Over the decades which followed he designed a wide range of classic men’s accessories, such as watches, spectacles, and writing implements, which achieved worldwide fame under the brand name “Porsche Design“. In parallel with this, he and his team, using the trademark “Design by F.A. Porsche“, created a large number of industrial products, domestic appliances, and consumer goods for internationally famous clients. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche has been acclaimed for his work as a designer by the bestowing of many honors and awards.

In autumn 2003 F.A. Porsche and the other shareholders of “Porsche Design“, together with Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, founded the Porsche Lizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (PLH, Porsche License and Trading Company). The aim of this company is to make best use of the potential of the name Porsche in sectors which go beyond the automobile. The focus here is on the trademark “Porsche Design“, which in recent years has developed to become one of the world’s leading brand names in luxury articles, with its own marketing network.

Matt Drendel was very special to many of us. For me he was like Family. We spent many of hours on the phone talking about everything from Porsches, Mark Donohue, Al Holbert to how much we missed our Moms who have passed away. He was like a brother from another Mother.

This one for me is going to take a long time to digest, but will never be forgotten. His everyday kindness was remarkable as he always had a smile and something nice to say no matter what when we talked or saw each other. He was always so proud to share what he had going on and always willing to hear an idea or get my opinion on something, it was as if we had a connection with each other from the moment we met.

I will always feel special knowing he was my friend, brother and will always be missed.

All the best,

Paul Powell

Matthew Clayton Drendel – (May 31st, 1975 – November 24th, 2010)

In loving memory: Heritage Motorwerks, LLC.

The Porsche Community has lost an outstanding friend Matt Drendel and uber custodian of one of the most significant private Porsche collections in the world. Among many accomplishments in his 35 years Matt was CEO/Founder of Heritage Motorwerks LLC. The word Heritage is described as “Something that is passed down from preceding generations”, and at Heritage Motorwerks they simply followed in the footsteps of Porsche and their amazing appreciation for detail and how much pride they take in their product.  Heritage Motorwerks was founded by Porsche collector, Matthew Drendel and was initially formed as a group that would solely support and maintain his extensive collection.  Heritage Motorwerks was invited to Irvine, California to help in the filming of the Porsche Panamera “Family Tree” commercial. Matt being a avid Porsche collector had many of the cars in the Panorama commercial, including the 917/30, 962, GT1, 934, 935 and many others.

Matt provided a large section of his collection for the Heritage & Historic Display at Parade 2008 in Charlotte:
http://picasaweb.google.com/porscheparadephotos2008/HeritageAndHistoric#

Pictures from Pelican Parts Forum Thread – Matt’s Porsche Service Shop -(Matt is wearing the black jacket and baseball cap)

Matt’s first word was probably “Turbo” and he put together what has to be the most comprehensive and quality collections of historic Porsche Turbo models in the world including the first Turbo, and a 917/30….too many more to list here. Matt’s father Frank has long been a “Porschephile” also. (quoted from a close friend named Tim Herman, N.C.  from the Porsche356registry.org)

Matt Drendel also drove a Porsche 996  GT3-R in the GT3 Championship in 2001 with Darren Law, David Murray & Cort Wagner. Pictures of some of Matt’s racing cars

The 964 chassis 911 Turbo 3.6 marks the end of an era for Porsche, as it was the end of the single-turbo, rear-wheel driven 911 Turbos, making it especially prominent amongst discerning Porschephiles. This particular example is especially significant as it is the exact car used in the popular film “Bad Boys”, starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Tea Leoni.

Matthew Clayton Drendel was 35 and died quickly of a stomach aneurysm on November 24, 2010.  The Drendel family is highly regarded in the Porsche community and has contributed a great amount to the quality of life here. Survivors include his wife, Shana Hefner Drendel; father, Frank M. Drendel; son, Zachary Matthew Drendel; and daughter, Alyssa Leigh Drendel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Drendel family.

Classic 1994 Marketing Video Porsche 911 993 Series Commercial – Are you listening?

Classic 1994 marketing video for the Porsche 911 (993 Series) television commercial….Great production if I may add. This was many years ago of course. Sweet promo piece…Patrick Stewart’s voice takes you back to the Porsche commercials for the 993, includes commentary by Hurely Haywood…This one’s definitely a keeper.

The voice that speaks to you, knows you better than any
other. The voice that knows what makes you happy. The voice knows what
makes you sad. The voice that knows.

There is a place not to far away, where people heard the voice
and listen, it said to them, build something. Build something pure.
Build something that isn’t temporary, disposable, build something to
inspire all those that experience it. Build a monument. ……….

“…looking for things that weren’t created, to be something to everyone… but everything to someone…”.
That sentence says a lot…

via youtube.com

Music is by Deep Forest

 Porsche – “Are You Listening?”

Your heart is still speaking all you have to do is listen.

Like everything, LIFE is a journey. A journey
that begins with a beat of a heart. And the voice that comes with
it…the voice that we  haven’t yet been conditioned to ignore, so we
listen to what it tells us. We follow where it leads us, we trust it,
were children…we are happy, but somewhere between then and now, we
lose touch with the voice, no matter how closely it whispers, or how
loud it cry’s.

Instead are ears are tuned
to other things, like the stock reports, 6 o’clock news, then one day,
putting the forks in the dishwasher or mowing the lawn, we happened to
catch the glimpse of joy in our children’s faces….and we REMEMBER, what it felt like.

Remember ….what it felt like to listen to that voice in our
hearts…and go with it. Then suddenly out of nowhere this SPARK of
wisdom occurs. It becomes very clear. It’s NOT to late. Your heart’s still speaking. All you have to do is LISTEN.
