Legendary automotive artist Dennis Simon has once again been chosen to create the event posters for Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion, a not-quite-annual gathering of historic Porsche racecars.Simon has created the posters for two of the previous three Rennsport Reunions. His 2004 poster featured three 908s crossing the finish line at the 1970 Daytona endurance race, and the 2007 version included a 917 in Gulf livery and a 962 in Lowenbrau colors.

For Porsche-philes, these posters have become instant collectibles.
The 2011 Rennsport Reunion IV will be held at

Laguna Seca from October 14-16.

Porsche Unveils The New Electric Boxster E – Undergoes Testing

Porsche Unveils The New Electric Boxster E – Undergoes Testing

Porsche Unveils The New Electric Boxster E

Porsche unveiled a new Boxster variant this week, the all electric Boxster E is a “mobile laboratory” for testing Porsche’s future electric drivetrain technology. There are currently 3 identical Boxster E’s being tested on the roads of Stuttgart, near the Porsche factory in Germany.

With 240hp and AWD the Boxster E makes the 0-60 dash in 5.3 seconds, it uses twin electric motors and has a 29 kWh battery system mounted behind the seats, offering ideal weight distribution. Porsche hasn’t revealed the top speed, range or charge time specifications for the car as Porsche is staying tight lipped about it, not uncommon when it comes to test-bed cars.

Most industry insiders are suggesting that this will be the first all electric offering from Porsche and may hit showrooms as early as 2012 with 2013 being offered as a slightly more realistic shipping date.

The Boxster is the smallest and lightest car in Porsche’s current model line up, making it ideal for an electric car conversion. Porsche has been making serious inroads into the electric and hybrid vehicle space in the past 12 months with the introduction of both the 918 RSR and the 911 GT3 Hybrid.

More updates will follow as news and information comes in from Porsche. There’s no word on when consumers will be able to get their hands on an all-electric version of the Boxster, and other details on the guts of the car are fairly sparse.

Porsche Human Performance Centre: http://www.porsche.co.uk/humanperform…

Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone UK recognizes that the most important component of any vehicle is the driver and is dedicated to improving well being, fitness and competitive performance.

Fit to race?

Take some time to view the videos below that can give you a greater understanding of the Porsche Human Performance Centre for one’s health and driving-specific fitness levels. The centre is there for advice, exercise and nutritional plans are prescribed to provide structure and motivation to achieve ones goals. A heat chamber is available for specialist acclimation training for racing drivers and endurance athletes prior to racing in hot climates.

Not all of us are fortunate enough go to the Porsche Human Performance Centre in the UK, however one can benefit from viewing the videos to better understand the extensive training that goes into a car racing drivers as a true athlete of  the track.

Porsche Human Performance offer lab testing and training services for endurance athletes in a range of sports including triathlon, cycling, running and rowing. All assessments include detailed body composition analysis, an aerobic test to determine lactate threshold, VO2 max, heart rate training zones and a written report containing all results.

Good visual skills, reactions and responses are critical for drivers at all levels both on the road or on the track. At Porsche Human Performance they use the BATAK machine amongst other devices and techniques to assess and improve visual skills and hand eye coordination.

The annual ‘Get Race Fit’ event, held at The Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone, is hosted each January by the Porsche Human Performance Team and is designed to educate and inspire drivers in ways to get fit for the upcoming racing season. This year 2011 the special guest was Formula One driver Mark Webber, who shared his unique insight and experience into the importance of fitness in top level motorsport.

Competing in the heat is one of the biggest challenges faced by any driver or athlete. At Porsche Human Performance they have a thermostatically controlled training room where one can simulate the high cockpit temperatures encountered in racing cars and hot countries to allow drivers and athletes to acclimate to the conditions without leaving the UK.

Replacing the electrolytes lost in sweat not only helps racing drivers and athletes to remain optimally hydrated but it can stop cramping and prevent performance dropping away in hot or arduous conditions. The difficulty is that everyone loses electrolytes in varying amounts. At Porsche Human Performance we offer a service to evaluate sweat sodium losses and advise drivers and athletes what sports drinks and supplements to use to replace their individual losses accurately.

The Inbody analyzer used at Porsche Human Performance measures a drivers’ weight, body fat mass, body water and lean muscle mass. It is an excellent tool for providing an insight into someone’s basic fitness and tracking changes to the body that result from training or nutritional programmes.

A wellness check with Porsche Human Performance takes just 30 minutes and gives you a huge amount of information about your cardiovascular health. It includes Inbody body composition analysis, blood cholesterol and glucose testing and a blood pressure check. A comprehensive consultation on the results highlights any areas in which it would be desirable to improve and offers suggestions on how to go about this.

Porsche has been hinting for some time that its return to the Detroit show would include an impressive debut.

Speculation is that it will be a supercar that could be a version of the 918 Spyder concept that made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show and was recently green-lighted for production a few months later. The German magazine Auto Zeitung reported earlier this month that the car could be the 929, a “no-compromise two-seat supercar” based on the 918 that would slot in above the 911.

Marco Holzer graduates to Porsche Factory Works Driver 2011

Marco Holzer graduates to Porsche Factory Works Driver 2011

Marco Holzer Becomes Porsche Factory Works Driver

Marco Holzer (born July 30, 1988 in Bobingen, Bavaria) is a German racing driver (age 22). He has competed in such series as the FIA GT3 European Championship, Rolex Sports Car Series, Formula 3 Euro Series and Formula BMW ADAC. Marco Holzer:  Official website

Stuttgart. Porsche Motorsport heads into the 2011 racing season in strong form. The works driver squad grows from eight to nine pilots. After his three year training stint as a Porsche Junior, Marco Holzer has now been signed on as a factory pilot. Established pilots Joerg Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Wolf Henzler, Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, Patrick Long and Patrick Pilet continue their contracts in 2011.

Porsche Factory Works Drivers 2011: Jörg Bergmeister, Patrick Long, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Richard Lietz, Marco Holzer, Marc Lieb, Patrick Pilet and Wolf Henzler

As part of the “Night of Champions” season-closing celebration in the R&D Centre at Weissach, Wolfgang Dürheimer, Board Member for Research and Development, praised the excellent performance of the Porsche works drivers: “Aside from the technology of the vehicles and the performance of the teams, our pilots contributed significantly to the huge success that we achieved in 2010. They are the ones who had to make the right decisions within fractions of seconds and deliver their best performances in our cars over many hours.”

Two Porsche factory pilots received special distinctions in the 2010 season. Timo Bernhard, the first to win the world’s four major long distance races and hence the Motorsport Grand Slam, was selected by a jury of experts as the ADAC Race Driver of the Year. Richard Lietz, who won the GT2 classification at the Le Mans 24 Hours as well as the championship title of the Le Mans Series, received the Austrian Race Driver of the Year award by the Austrian Motorsport Association committee (OSK).

In his speech, Dürheimer stressed the special role of motorsport for the future of the automobile: “Right now, motor racing has the historic chance to take the lead in important technological advances. Fielding the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, we have shown how you put crucial ground-breaking technology to the test with success on the race circuit. We will continue to determinedly blaze a trail and we believe that sooner or later other manufacturers will follow suit. But to do this you need courageous and visionary rule-makers who recognise this opportunity and, in conjunction with manufacturers, implement the new challenges in a clear, stable and long term system of regulations.”

Furthermore, Dürheimer applauded the impressive career of the RS Spyder sports prototype. After a total of 12 championship titles, 13 overall and 35 class victories in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series and at Le Mans, the RS Spyder programme was concluded as planned.

Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, accentuated the special position in international customer sport: “30,000 racing victories, more than 500 teams throughout the world and over 2,000 units of the 911 GT3 Cup produced – such numbers are unparalleled anywhere on earth. Every Porsche carries racing genes. And these genes will also be present in the Porsche models that we develop in the future. Because these vehicles are the basis for the race cars that will bring home victories in the future in the hands of our customer teams worldwide.”

Porsche presents GT3-RSR Spec 2011 – GT racer gets an update

Porsche presents GT3-RSR Spec 2011 – GT racer gets an update

Porsche is now unveiling the 2011 911 GT3 RSR, the latest iteration of what’s surely the most successful GT race car of all time.

What’s new? More power, for one thing.

Porsche has made extensive changes to the 911 GT3 RSR to be competitive in the coming season on the routes of the world.

Her world premiere of the 2011er version of the world’s most successful racing car in the GT racing season party “Night of Champions” at the Development Centre Weissach.   When developing the GT3 RSR had a redesigned aerodynamics at the front and rear, changes to the suspension kinematics and on the engine in the foreground.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, including lots of detailed improvements in the new season.

The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six gets a 5-hp bump to 455, the full power of which is unleashed at 7800 rpm. Maximum torque is 332 lb-ft, and the powerhouse still redlines at a screaming 9400 rpm. Vrroooom!!!

To achieve the slight power gain, Weissach engineers tweaked the engine control to adjust even more precisely to differing fuel quality. The intake is also reworked, while the exhaust system is entirely new. The four-valve-per-cylinder engine sports individual throttle bodies and dry-sump lubrication. It’s an evolution of a tried-and-true engine, not the new, direct-injection powerplant now used in most of Porsche’s street-legal 911s.

The task of routing the power to the rear wheels falls to a sequential six-speed gearbox with a three-disc carbon clutch. The traction-control system is adjustable and tuned to enable maximum acceleration. Eighteen-inch BBS wheels are fitted; the fronts are wider than last year’s—12 inches instead of 11—while the rear wheels remain a staggering 13 inches wide. The suspension is completely adjustable. Despite a galvanized-steel body, the new long-distance racer weighs a claimed 2690 pounds.

From the outside, you can tell it’s the 2011 model by the LED taillights taken directly from the street-legal current-gen 997. There is a new front lip spoiler with improved airflow; the rear is also tweaked, adding additional apertures for ventilation. While the rear now looks much like the current 997, the GT3 RSR curiously keeps the looks of the “phase-one,” pre-2009 997 at the front. The cutout for the front turn signals looks almost exactly like that of the 2004–2008 models. It’s a surprising decision as the GT3 Cup and the GT3 R, the RSR’s sister models in Porsche Motorsport’s lineup, showcase the latest 911 styling in full.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The 911 GT3 RSR is not street legal, and the price is steep: In Germany, Porsche will charge €410,000 before taxes. At current exchange rates, that’s more than half a million dollars. But for those on a budget, Porsche Motorsport will offer a kit to upgrade last year’s model to 2011 specs.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – The legendary designer of the Porsche 911 turns 75

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – The legendary designer of the Porsche 911 turns 75

Stuttgart. Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Honorary Chair of the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, celebrated his 75th birthday on 11 December 2010. As a designer of true genius, F.A. Porsche was the creator of such legendary automobiles as the 904 Carrera GTS, or the Porsche 911. After stepping down from the management of Porsche KG, in 1972 he founded the “Porsche Design“ Studio, and achieved worldwide fame and recognition as an independent product designer.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was born on 11 December 1935 in Stuttgart, the eldest son of Dorothea and Ferry Porsche. As a child his world was already being influenced by automobiles, with him spending a lot of time in the design offices and development workshops of his grandfather Ferdinand Porsche. In 1943 the family, together with the company of Porsche, relocated to Austria, where he went to school in Zell am See. After returning to Stuttgart in 1950, he passed the final school examination, the “Abitur”, at the Waldorf School, and registered at the College of Design in Ulm. In 1958 F.A. Porsche joined the design department of what was at that time Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG.

His talent for design very soon became apparent when, with the Type 754 “T7“, he formally presented to the world the direction which was to be followed in the succession to the 356 Series. In 1962 he took charge of the management of the Porsche Design Studio, and one year later took the world by storm with the Porsche 901 (also referred to as the 911). As well as passenger cars, F.A. Porsche was also deeply involved in the design of the racing cars of the 1960’s. Among his most famous designs were the Formula One Type 804 racer, or the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, which motoring fans have always regarded as one of the finest and most beautiful racing vehicles ever made.

With the conversion of Porsche KG into a share company in 1971/72, F.A. Porsche and all the other family members stepped aside from the operational business of the company. As a shareholder and member of the Supervisory Board, he oversaw the development of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG for many years, and from 1990 to 1993 he served as the Chair of the Supervisory Board. In 2005 he passed the mantle of responsibility as a Porsche AG Supervisory Board member to his son Oliver, and took on the position of Honorary Chair of the Board.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche founded the “Porsche Design Studio“ in Stuttgart in 1972, the headquarters being relocated to Zell am See in Austria in 1974. Over the decades which followed he designed a wide range of classic men’s accessories, such as watches, spectacles, and writing implements, which achieved worldwide fame under the brand name “Porsche Design“. In parallel with this, he and his team, using the trademark “Design by F.A. Porsche“, created a large number of industrial products, domestic appliances, and consumer goods for internationally famous clients. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche has been acclaimed for his work as a designer by the bestowing of many honors and awards.

In autumn 2003 F.A. Porsche and the other shareholders of “Porsche Design“, together with Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, founded the Porsche Lizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (PLH, Porsche License and Trading Company). The aim of this company is to make best use of the potential of the name Porsche in sectors which go beyond the automobile. The focus here is on the trademark “Porsche Design“, which in recent years has developed to become one of the world’s leading brand names in luxury articles, with its own marketing network.

Matt Drendel was very special to many of us. For me he was like Family. We spent many of hours on the phone talking about everything from Porsches, Mark Donohue, Al Holbert to how much we missed our Moms who have passed away. He was like a brother from another Mother.

This one for me is going to take a long time to digest, but will never be forgotten. His everyday kindness was remarkable as he always had a smile and something nice to say no matter what when we talked or saw each other. He was always so proud to share what he had going on and always willing to hear an idea or get my opinion on something, it was as if we had a connection with each other from the moment we met.

I will always feel special knowing he was my friend, brother and will always be missed.

All the best,

Paul Powell

Matthew Clayton Drendel – (May 31st, 1975 – November 24th, 2010)

In loving memory: Heritage Motorwerks, LLC.

The Porsche Community has lost an outstanding friend Matt Drendel and uber custodian of one of the most significant private Porsche collections in the world. Among many accomplishments in his 35 years Matt was CEO/Founder of Heritage Motorwerks LLC. The word Heritage is described as “Something that is passed down from preceding generations”, and at Heritage Motorwerks they simply followed in the footsteps of Porsche and their amazing appreciation for detail and how much pride they take in their product.  Heritage Motorwerks was founded by Porsche collector, Matthew Drendel and was initially formed as a group that would solely support and maintain his extensive collection.  Heritage Motorwerks was invited to Irvine, California to help in the filming of the Porsche Panamera “Family Tree” commercial. Matt being a avid Porsche collector had many of the cars in the Panorama commercial, including the 917/30, 962, GT1, 934, 935 and many others.

Matt provided a large section of his collection for the Heritage & Historic Display at Parade 2008 in Charlotte:

Matt’s first word was probably “Turbo” and he put together what has to be the most comprehensive and quality collections of historic Porsche Turbo models in the world including the first Turbo, and a 917/30….too many more to list here. Matt’s father Frank has long been a “Porschephile” also. (quoted from a close friend named Tim Herman, N.C.  from the Porsche356registry.org)

Matt Drendel also drove a Porsche 996  GT3-R in the GT3 Championship in 2001 with Darren Law, David Murray & Cort Wagner. Pictures of some of Matt’s racing cars

The 964 chassis 911 Turbo 3.6 marks the end of an era for Porsche, as it was the end of the single-turbo, rear-wheel driven 911 Turbos, making it especially prominent amongst discerning Porschephiles. This particular example is especially significant as it is the exact car used in the popular film “Bad Boys”, starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Tea Leoni.

Matthew Clayton Drendel was 35 and died quickly of a stomach aneurysm on November 24, 2010.  The Drendel family is highly regarded in the Porsche community and has contributed a great amount to the quality of life here. Survivors include his wife, Shana Hefner Drendel; father, Frank M. Drendel; son, Zachary Matthew Drendel; and daughter, Alyssa Leigh Drendel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Drendel family.

JANIS JOPLIN’S psychedelic painted 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet

JANIS JOPLIN’S psychedelic painted 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet

Janis Joplin‘s famous psychedelic Porsche returned to its erstwhile Marin home, making a rare local appearance at the Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance, Sunday, May 16th, 2010.

In September 1968, the budding rock star paid a Beverly Hills auto dealer $3,500 for the three-year-old sports car. When she bought it, the Porsche was a factory-painted “oyster white.” For a flamboyant singer who wore rose-colored glasses and feather boas, that wouldn’t do. So she got roadie Dave Richards to paint it with swirling psychedelic images, including Mount Tamalpais on one fender and a portrait of her with her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, on another.

The singer’s 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet, which she bought when she was living in Larkspur, is usually enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. It came to Marin from the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, where it was on loan.

“They used regular house paint,” Michael Joplin recalled. “They were just playing around, saying, ‘Hey, let’s make an art car.’ They were having a lot of fun. It was a convertible, and she would drive it around with the top down. People would leave notes for her on it.”

Beneath her carefree image and gaudy facade, though, Joplin was a troubled soul. And in October 1970, she was found dead of a drug overdose in a Los Angeles hotel room. Michael, 10 years younger, was devastated. “I wanted to be just like her,” he said.

After her death, the Porsche ended up in the hands of her manager, Albert Grossman, who lived in Bearsville, N.Y., and let visiting rock musicians drive it when they were in town.

In 1973, the car was returned to the Joplin family.

“It was trashed,” Michael recalled. It had been sitting in a garage for a long time and it wasn’t driveable. I pushed it down the road to a guy who worked on VWs and he got it running.

My sister Laura and I drove it for the next 20 years.”

During that time, the psychedelic paint job was fading as fast as Joplin’s stardom.

“I would drive along and big chips of paint would fly off,” Michael remembered. “It was an old car, and it started falling apart. It always needed something, and we needed to repair it. After much anguish, we decided to take the paint off to save the car.”

It’s hard to imagine now, but a decade after her death, the memory of the electrifying singer of “Piece of My Heart” and “Ball and Chain” was fading fast in the public consciousness.

“Her fame was waning, and the car became more valuable as an antique Porsche than as Janis Jopin’s car,” Michael said. “Ten years after her death she was an old star. It took a while for her to achieve iconic status.”

It was only when the family produced the play “Love, Janis,” that they decided to have the old Porsche restored. In 1994, it was repainted in all its hippie-era glory.

“We were opening the play in Denver, and we thought it would be cool to put the car in the lobby,” Michael recalled. “So we had the Denver Center Theater Company’s paint shop re-create the design from the hundreds of photographs we had. After that, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame called, saying, ‘Oh, my God, we have to have that car.'”

The Spirit of Janis Joplin’s Porsche 356 Lives On

For Porsche, 1965 was the last model year for the 356 and was denoted with a C when it was introduced in 1964, replacing the 356B.  The 356C which  featured disc brakes as well as an option for the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche had ever produced, the 95 hp (71 kW) “SC.” 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars in 1964, the year that its successor, the new 911, was introduced to the US market (it was introduced slightly earlier in Europe). The company continued to sell the 356C in North America through 1965 as demand for the model remained quite strong in the early days of the 911. The last ten 356’s (cabriolets) were assembled for the Dutch police force in March 1966 as 1965 models.

Janis Joplin’s unmistakable 1965 Porsche, which boasts a wowzer psychedelic flower-power paint job that’s a swirl of day-glo flowers, star-sign symbols, cartoon butterfly’s and even a ‘portrait’ of her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. It’s like a moving mural. The artwork is really emblematic of the psychedelic era. Plus, she didn’t just store it — it was one of her prized possessions, so she drove it around all the time.If it was parked on a street in San Francisco somewhere, you knew she couldn’t be too far away.”

“Oh lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz.
My friends all drive porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends.
Oh lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” ~ Janis Joplin ~

Warpaint: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars

Warpaint: The Graphic Design of Racing Cars

Go Faster by Sven Voelker gives deep insight into racing-car graphic design

You’d never guess it, but these big toys for big boys were at the height of their design.
Mechanics and team members – adorned racecars with all of those flashy stripes, logos, numbers and colors prevalent race today.
A whip-fast lesson in competitive “WAR PAINT”, visual anarchy and car designs.
They were to LOOK dangerous and be the WINNER.
This video provides a very interesting look at the design of racing cars in 70s. The graphics on these cars are incredible — very minimal and nothing at all like the logo-plastered cars of NASCAR.

Go Faster is a book by a German university professor, Sven Voelker giving the clear insight into the glory of racing-car graphic design.

This book makes car fans familiar with the fact that most of the racing cars like Porsche and Ferrari were given looks not by marketing strategists or designers, but by chance.

Go Faster is a collection of over one hundred examples of racecar design that documents the carefree anarchy in which they were created. In the book, each colorful racing car is featured next to a blank, white model.

Thanks to this juxtaposition, Go Faster shows its readers exactly how graphics modulate the look of the vehicle.
The neutral models also give readers ample opportunity to imagine their own possibilities for graphic design in motor sports.
This makes the book an ideal gift for anyone interested in racing and high speeds.

Stripes, numbers, colors, and logos – the graphic visual look of a racecar has to stand out from all the others as they go zooming by.
Most people don’t know that racing cars from the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, and Lotus were given their looks not by marketing strategists or designers, but by pure chance.

The time and effort invested in the look of racecars is strangely out of balance compared to that used to shape the bodywork or engineer the technology present in the car.
But perhaps it is precisely this amateur quality, this anarchy and randomness that results in the irresistible attraction that racing cars and their graphics have on us.

There are, of course, countless books on racing cars, but Go Faster is the first to focus on the graphic design of these machines.

This book with 144 pages and 21 × 26cm format was release on January 2010 and is priced at $ 40, 00. The book is the collection of more than hundred examples on race car design, documenting the carefree anarchy which these vehicles were created in.

At the same time, the book not only gives the readers a chance to know how graphics modulate the look of the vehicle but also the opportunities to imagine their own possibilities for graphic design in motor sports.

Go Faster gives meticulous attention to minutest details and discusses how the numbers, stripes, logos and colours in vehicle are not a willy nilly affair but purposefully placed by the designer team. Well, this book comes out to be a perfect gift for the racing nerds and car freaks.

While the go-faster stripe is a classic design element of the racing car, the look of these vehicles is rarely created by a designer. Sven Voelker looks at the unexplored area of fast and furious graphic art in the new book,…….

Italian Porsche Artist – Alessandro Gedda – Cayman Skyscraper

ITALIAN ARTIST ALESSANDRO GEDDA HAS A PASSION FOR FAST CARS AND IN PARTICULAR FOR THE PORSCHE

Porsche “My passion,” he says..

Fancy painted Cayman lifted onto a building.  A crane lifts a covered Porsche with a cloth, it does a fly over one of the most beautiful buildings in Milan and then laid gently on the Terrace Downtown. The curtain falls and reveals a Porsche Cayman completely customized by the brush of Alessandro Gedda.  The man seems to be a perpetual motion machine. Italian artist Alessandro Gedda radiates a dynamic energy that finds expression in his brilliantly hued, powerful paintings.

With his zest for art, photography, and design, Gedda has gained an international reputation. His works have been exhibited in Rome and Milan and will be shown in Monaco, New York, Miami, and Moscow this year alone. One of the dominating themes of his work:

Porsche. “My passion,” he says.

A passion the forty-year-old Gedda is not content to express solely in his art: Last year, he pursued it for 50,000 kilometers (about 35,000 miles) on real-life roads. His current love is a 911 Carrera 4 in Seal Gray. Che bella macchina, as the Italians like to say. Gedda says he soaks up the various impressions he gains on these drives, unfiltered, so to speak, to later capture them on canvas. These fleeting impressions range from the typical anarchy of an Italian roundabout to a speedy highway jaunt to a stop by the side of beautiful Lake Como.

Gedda lives only about ten miles from Lake Como, in a sixteenth-century manor house in Appiano Gentile.

“I only keep a few of my canvases at home,” he says. “The others are in private collections. Two were recently bought by American gallery owners. Actually, when I think about it, selling one of my pictures is always a highly emotional experience. It means parting with one of your creations. It will travel new roads without you—but it carries your mark out into the world, the mark of passion.”

Alessandro GeddaAlessandro Gedda

How did it all start?

“I was six years old, and we were living on a country estate in Tuscany. Friends of my father would often drop by before taking part in a rally on the island of Elba. And there was this one car that caught my fancy more than anything else,” Gedda says. “A Porsche. I especially remember the big headlights and the inimitable sound. I drew a picture of it—and from that moment, I knew I wanted to own a Porsche myself one day.”

Just one Porsche? Actually… no.

Gedda’s current Porsche is his fourth. He started out with a 911 SC 3.0, then he fell in with a 911 RS, then he set his sights on a 911 Carrera, before ultimately falling for his current “baby.”

Gedda’s relationship with his Porsches is a close one. He even talks to them. He remembers how he once got up early so he could have a heart-to heart with his 911 RS and beseech it to climb the Cisa Pass “like only this 911 could.” The pass crosses the Apennines to link the Emilia-Romagna region with Tuscany.

“The Porsche replied in its own language, the musical tones of its flat-six engine.”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Talking to your car sounds a little crazy?

Well, maybe this kind of dialogue is less surprising when one considers that Gedda studied communications in New York City, and for the past thirteen years has headed an agency devoted to communications in the broadest sense of the term.

Alessandro Gedda has always liked to test limits, including his own—whether it’s parachuting (when he was with the police in the 1980s), deep-sea diving, or pursuing his passion for Porsche. In that respect, his current pet project fits the bill perfectly. It seems space will be getting a little tight in his studio soon. Besides his large canvases, Gedda will have to make room for a Porsche 356. He plans to restore the vintage machine—in 356 days, to be precise.

1938 Porsche Type 64 – on display at The Allure of the Automobile exhibition High Museum of Art in Atlanta

Porsche Type 64 from 1939 Photo from herrenzimmer.de.

1938 Porsche Type 64 Berlin Rome Car…. The Porsche Museum in Germany has sent its legendary Type 64 Berlin Rome Car on a long journey to Atlanta where it will be on display at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta for the “The Allure of the Automobile” exhibition from March 21st until June 20th, 2010 to celebrate the brand’s 60th Anniversary in America.

“Type 64 is of very special significance to the history of the Porsche brand: Built in 1938/39 under the guidance of Ferdinand Porsche… It was beautiful, dynamic and fast – and it quickly became Ferdinand Porsche’s great passion: Although this unique sports car built for the Berlin-Rome long-distance race bore nothing but the simple model designation “Type 64”, it is acknowledged as the “original Porsche”, the“great-grandfather” of all Porsches to follow. Within and beneath its streamlined aluminum Type 64 boasts the trendsetting concepts so characteristic of all Porsche sports cars following in the years to come.

Porsche Typ 60 K 10 – Porsche Typ 64 Berlin-Rom 1939…from kitchener.lord Source-MotorKlassik-2

In terms of design and aerodynamics this unique Coupé was far ahead of its time, the symbiosis of motorsport qualities and production features creating an ideal grand touring car. On public roads Type 64 reached a top speed of no less than 130 km/h or 81 mph. Ferdinand Porsche often drove this car himself, showing his deep satisfaction by presenting the Porsche family name on the car itself. Story by Porsche AG Driving the 1938 Porsche Type 64K10

 via youtube.com

The Porsche 64, also known as the VW Aerocoupe, Type 64 and Type 60K10, is considered by many to be the first automobile from what was to become the Porsche company, as a true design precursor to the production model of after the war. The model number comes from the fact that it was built mainly from design drawings for the Type-64 “record car”. Most mechanical parts came from the 38 prototype series. The chassis was heavily reinforced and the engine also reworked to produce around 45-50 brake horse power. The Type-64 was only a drawing until the three racers were built.

The body was also a compromise in that the cab had to look like a KdF car, but the rest was ‘record’ car. The VW beetle was the Type-60, and the name the “60K10” means body design 10 for the Type-60 Beetle. Its flat-four engine produced 50 bhp and gave a top speed of around 160 km/h (99 mph). The body design was made by the Porsche Büro after wind tunnel tests for a planned V10 sports car that never came into existence, the Type 114. Dr. Porsche promoted the idea to enter the car into the 1939 Berlin-Rome race as a public relations ploy. Three cars were made in hand shaped aluminum by the bodywork company Reutter.

Porsche Typ 60 K 10 – Porsche Typ 64 Berlin-Rom 1939…from kitchener.lord Source-MotorKlassik

One was destroyed early in World War II. The two remaining were used by the Porsche family.  Eventually they only used one of them and put the other in storage.  In May 1945 American troops discovered the one put in storage, cut the roof off and used it for joyriding for a few weeks until the engine gave up and it was scrapped.

The last remaining Porsche 64 was owned by Ferry Porsche who had it restored by Battista Farina in 1947. In 1949 it was sold to the Austrian motorcycle racer Otto Mathé and with it he won the Alpine Rally in 1950. The last time he drove it in a race was at the Monterey Historic Races in Monterey, California, in 1982.

Classic 1994 Marketing Video Porsche 911 993 Series Commercial – Are you listening?

Classic 1994 marketing video for the Porsche 911 (993 Series) television commercial….Great production if I may add. This was many years ago of course. Sweet promo piece…Patrick Stewart’s voice takes you back to the Porsche commercials for the 993, includes commentary by Hurely Haywood…This one’s definitely a keeper.

The voice that speaks to you, knows you better than any
other. The voice that knows what makes you happy. The voice knows what
makes you sad. The voice that knows.

There is a place not to far away, where people heard the voice
and listen, it said to them, build something. Build something pure.
Build something that isn’t temporary, disposable, build something to
inspire all those that experience it. Build a monument. ……….

“…looking for things that weren’t created, to be something to everyone… but everything to someone…”.
That sentence says a lot…

via youtube.com

Music is by Deep Forest

 Porsche – “Are You Listening?”

Your heart is still speaking all you have to do is listen.

Like everything, LIFE is a journey. A journey
that begins with a beat of a heart. And the voice that comes with
it…the voice that we  haven’t yet been conditioned to ignore, so we
listen to what it tells us. We follow where it leads us, we trust it,
were children…we are happy, but somewhere between then and now, we
lose touch with the voice, no matter how closely it whispers, or how
loud it cry’s.

Instead are ears are tuned
to other things, like the stock reports, 6 o’clock news, then one day,
putting the forks in the dishwasher or mowing the lawn, we happened to
catch the glimpse of joy in our children’s faces….and we REMEMBER, what it felt like.

Remember ….what it felt like to listen to that voice in our
hearts…and go with it. Then suddenly out of nowhere this SPARK of
wisdom occurs. It becomes very clear. It’s NOT to late. Your heart’s still speaking. All you have to do is LISTEN.

CATWALK – Designed by Porsche Design Studio – a Luxury Floating Club Dream Boat

“Catwalk” designed by Porsche Design Studio and Johannes Buchner & Michael Gossler
Two party organizers from the city of Regensburg, in southeastern Germany, (in Bavaria, a port at the confluence of the Danube and Regen Rivers) were fed up with hiring old cruise boats with run down interiors for their events.
Now they have designed their own luxury version by converting an old Danube pleasure boat and hiring Porsche Design to help them achieve their dream boat.

Johannes  Buchner and Michael Gossler, decided in 2009 to transform a tour boat
named Danubian ‘Renate II’,  into a luxury floating club lounge.

Indeed, from a boat with three decks, the two protagonists have sought the services of the creative team of Porsche Design Studio to develop on more than 900 m², an exclusive design, without compromise, combining the sport, superior elegance and dynamic look, so typical of  the Porsche Design brand.
\
This new concept called ‘Catwalk’ has several dance floors, a restaurant, bar and DJ booth.
For decoration, Porsche has played on light colors, clean lines and functional formats.

The boat is currently docked in Vienna, but its two commissioners want to take ‘Catwalk’ across Europe for a festive trip. Ultimately, their goal is to make ‘Catwalk’ a chain worldwide.
With a dream to have a ‘Catwalk’ …in London, Berlin, Istanbul, St. Tropez, Singapore, Sydney, Ibiza, Hong Kong, Miami and in New York.
