Get inside the famous House of Porsche and see how they create the Porsche 911, one of the most influential and recognizable vehicles in the world. Every distinctive element is manufactured at the Zuffenhausen factory in Stuttgart, Germany, a historical industrial monument. We’ll examine the Porsche factory’s innovative system of lifts, elevators and bridges, which conveys car bodies 50 feet above a public highway. The Porsche’s body is transported by bridge over a busy Stuttgart highway. Then the multi-step painting process begins.

Singer 911 Vehicle Design, the return of the aircooled 911

http://www.singervehicledesign.com/main_1.swf

Reimagined..restored…reborn!

“The Singer 911 is no mere imitation, clone or retro-hot rod, but a re-interpretation and rebirth of the early performance-focused 911’s. The new vehicle is the result of a fusion between the purity of the original 911 and modern materials, design, and updated technologies, and aftermarket experience into a unique sports car that recaptures the essence of the early 911’s golden age.The Singer 911 capitalizes on the 40 years of solutions and enhancements that have resulted from the racing aftermarket’s embracing the original 911. Borrowing the best elements from the air/oil cooled 911’s long production span such as the “chic” of the long hood pre-’74 race specials, and the engineering durability of the later cars from the 80’s and 90’s, Singer Vehicle Design capitalizes
on the vast know how and evolutionary advances the original 911 has enjoyed. The experience offered by the new Singer 911 is a passionate celebration of the history making, iconic 911, and creates an enhanced sportscar that honors the original 911’s soul.”

Monterey Historics Now Known as Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

Curious about the future of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races?
In spite of a parting of ways between Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and organizer General Racing, Mazda confirmed the event will continue, albeit as the “Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.”

“It’s a new dawn for the event and we are embracing it by honoring the authenticity of the race cars and integrating social and lifestyle elements that present guests with new discoveries to keep it exciting and innovative,” said Barry Toepke, vice president of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “Our new name and branding captures the spirit that has made this event one of the most respected gatherings of its kind worldwide.”

Immediately following the conclusion of the 2009 event, the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), which runs day-to-day operations at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and the event’s founder and organizer, General Racing, announced that they could no longer reach an equitable economic arrangement and that they would end their relationship. Many in the historic auto racing world worried it would spell the end of the 36-year institution, but Mazda has announced  that the event has been rechristened with the help of long-time sponsor Rolex.

This year’s event, now known as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, will take place on August 13 through 15 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Though this year’s featured marquee hasn’t been announced yet, Mazda and SCRAMP have announced several special events for this year’s event.

Joining the already-impressive line-up of 14 classes for 2010 will be four new featured classes including 1966 to 1983 Formula 1 cars celebrating the series’ 60th Anniversary, 1966 to 1972 Trans Am cars, a special Bugatti Grand Prix celebrating the Bugatti Club of America’s 50th Anniversary and, for the first time ever, a NASCAR class for drum brake-equipped cars from 1966 to 1975.

The Bugatti event has reportedly drawn registrations from participants as far away as Japan, Australia and Europe and will be followed by a road rally from San Francisco to Oxnard, California, down scenic Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway.

Imagine cruising up the Pacific Coast Highway to your favorite tunes in a Porsche 356 Speedster – from San Diego to San Francisco

And you’ll have the perfect tool for carving up the Pacific Coast highway.

……enjoy the video

If you can hang around on the Pacific Coast Highway or Mullohand Drive and watch the traffic go by, you would see one of almost everything in a given hour’s time, from Porsches, Lamborghini’s, Cobras, Speedsters, ’32 high-boy roadsters, to MGA’s, TC’s, E-Types, and Woodie wagons. Porsche 356 Speedster? They are everywhere!

When was the last time you saw a Porsche 356 on the road?

There’s no mistaking, vintage 356 Porsche cars are a special breed of automobiles that have played an important role of shaping automobile design. Car manufacturers of today are constantly struggling to create the same kind of excitement that car designers of the past were able to accomplish so naturally without the use of modern technologies. With each passing year, their history, design features, racing pedigree, and even their idiosyncrasies becomeincreasingly appreciated.

The 911 was the outgrowth of the Porsche 356 Speedster cabriolet, particularly the 1963 SC version.  One of the purest and most basic and most beautiful of all
auto designs, the Speedster was designed primarily as a California sports car to take advantage of the money of wealthy Hollywood stars and producers and the more convertible-friendly climate.

The 356 Speedster’s famous race car sister, the 550 Spyder, was the Porsche in which James Dean was killed on September 30, 1955, forever immortalizing that particular model, too.

This appreciation is especially true for those who experience these cars . If you are a owner or know someone that is a 356 car hobby bug, these newly born enthusiasts begin buying books, magazines, regalia, cars and parts, and anything else they can get their hands on to fulfill their yearning for 356 Speedster car fun. If these cars are tucked away in a dark corner of a garage, this scenario would never happen.

So if you are a owner of a 356 Speedster, grab your gloves and goggles, it is time to have some fun! See you on the road…….Pacific Coast Highway 1!!
